Two teachers miss out on R-day award because of being recruited during controversial 2015 recruitment

CHANDIGARH: Two teachers from government schools of UT Chandigarh are loosing out on the Republic day award this year for the reason that they were recruited in 2015 when the JBT paper leak scam took place. Names of many teacher’s had cropped up in the scam for benefiting from the paper leak and in 2017 UT administration had quashed the recruitment of all teachers. However the same was stayed by Chandigarh administrative Tribunal.

“Since the recruitment is disputed we couldn’t select them for the award,” shared a senior official requesting anonymity. The education department too was disappointed and said that they will in some other way reward these teachers. BL Sharma education Secretary said, ” I know about the work of the two teachers and we did want to award them but because of the JBT recruitment scam we could not. But we will certainly reward them in some other way.

Both the teachers are Junior Basic teachers teaching primary children. While one teacher was being recommended for his contribution in academics and the other for helping children in academics and personal life.

One of the teachers Sandeep Phogat got his students younger brothers eyes checked, operated and also payed for his after checkup expenses. Not just this he stayed with him all through in the hospital and gave 15days groceries to his grandparents (daily wagers) who have been parenting the two boys after their father mother abandoned them. This as they could not work for the days when the boy was hospitalized. TOI had reported in December. He teaches in colony number 4.

Another teacher Munish Kumar a Junior Basic Teacher from government Middle School in Palsora Colony has been working with a mission to raise the quality of education of not only his own class but the entire Government School students. He has prepared three textbooks for teaching basic English and Mathematics and has been giving to teachers free of cost by making PDF files. He also gives free of cost Motivational lectures in different government schools in morning assemblies. He was awarded on Tuesday for his initiatives as a teacher by GC Mishra memorial Educational and charitable Trust.

When told about the same did not lower the spirit of these teachers. When contacted both had the same answer to give- Awards will come and go our main award is to see the children grow strong in academics and life.
